Soul Train Music

The Soul Train is a premier soul and funk band hailing from Rochester MN. The Soul Train was established in 2020 by founding members Rocky Schultz and LaSonya Natividad. This outstanding sure to make your soul move and groove band covers over 7 decades of music with a dabble of rock, pop and hip hop here and there. Although newly established the Soul Train has at least 5 decades of music experience with varying styles of music training represented which include self taught to classically trained. Come on ride this train.

LaSonya Natividad 
LaSonya is one of the founders of Soul Train. Her music training includes Louisiana high school band and chorale. Her singing career started in 3rd grade and include cover performances spanning  7 decades. LaSonya has graced most local stages with her jazz Ensemble Madison Parish and other bands including Knufunk. She has collaboration recordings with local and regional acts.
Dan Waugh
Dan hails from Clinton Iowa where he began playing big band and dixieland jazz at age 16.  While attending Luther College he performed internationally and began leading his own jazz groups.  He still runs his jazz group the Med City Jazz Collective and performs with Rochester based band Uptown Jazz.  Dan plays alto and bari saxes and arranges music for the Soul Train.
John Sievers 
John Sievers studied trombone and jazz at The University of Northern Iowa.  He leads the jazz group The D’Sievers which has appeared at international jazz festivals like the Twin Cities Jazz Fest, and he’s the trombonist for Loud Mouth Brass.  He’s performed and recorded with many Minnesotan bands like Suite, Jaggedease, Push and Turn, The John Paulson Big Band, and After School Special.  He’s also performed with nationally touring acts like The Buckinghams, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, and the 10,000 Maniacs.  He’s appeared on stage with jazz greats such as Benny Golson.  His composition “The Parsley Bridge Waltz” was featured on the television show “Let’s Go, Minnesota” which is aired nationally on Create TV, and he was the co-writer of the theme music for the KSMQ TV show “On Q.”  John was awarded the Mayor’s medal of Honor for Artistic and Cultural Achievement in 2017.  He’s also a husband, a father, a writer, a teacher, and someone who loves mermaids with a passion.
Vivian Lark 
Vivian has been singing and playing piano since she was 7. She attended DePaul University School of Music and Columbia College in Chicago, IL for vocal performance, where she participated in an opera chorus, a funk band, and a vocal jazz quartet. After Chicago she moved to NYC with her band and performed at the world-famous Apollo Theater. Vivian has been teaching for almost 20 years, and specializes in beginners of all ages, from age 5 to adult. She teaches piano and voice with patience and understanding, and along with normal cognitive learners, Vivian also teaches students with autism and other learning disabilities.  She joined ‘The Soul Train’ in October of 2020.
Rocky Schultz
Been playing in the Rochester music scene since the late 1980s. Self-taught player who appreciates many styles and genres of music. Blue Moon, Chaser Straight, Bad Logic, The Chubs, Lead foot, Crazy on you a tribute to heart are some of the bands he’s been involved in, as well as one of the founding members of the Soul Train.
Gabe Green
Gabe started playing drums at age 5 constantly growing and developing his skills by working with the elementary school band the ensemble band in junior high school. Gabe was one of the only junior high students invited to march in the high school marching band prior to being in high school and it gave him the ability to band camp a Grambling State University for 5 years to attend drum courses and summer learning. Born an raised in church, his love for drums became a true passion with gospel drumming and recorded CD’s with Ernest Jefferson an Irving Mass Choir, Eddie Clark and VOR in Dallas, TX and even opened up for some of Gospels greatest artist such as Ricky Dillard, Kirk Franklin, Karen Clark Sheard, Yolanda Adams and Fred Hammond when they would perform yearly at Dallas, TX at Six Flags over Texas. Moving and relocating to MN Gabe has performed in several bands including KnuFunk and Currently serve as the drummer for The Soul Train band. While constantly working on recordings with different artist from pop to gospel to soul fusion Gabe Continues to thrive as one of the most sought out drummers in Minnesota.
Erich Lechelt
Erich has 20+ years experiences playing bass in various SE Minnesota bands. He started playing bass around age 12 with his first song being What I’d Say by Ray charles. He describes his happy place when playing Soul, funk and rock music genres. He enjoys playing with other talented musicians and most of all playing live for crowds that enjoy getting on the dance floor.
